Rev. Dr. Jean Darlene Brown, Associate Minister

Jean Darlene Brown is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and resides in Raleigh, NC since 1991. She is the first born to Catherine Pryor and Rudolph Reynolds, who both reside in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her husband is Deacon William R. Brown, also formerly of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who later relocated to Castalia, North Carolina with his parents Jay and Mother Mildred Brown. Jean and William have three adult children, two sons-in-law, one daughter in-law, eight grands, and one great-grand.

Jean earned her undergraduate and Master of Arts degrees in Organizational Management and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Virginia University of Lynchburg. She has a conferred honorary degree; Doctor of Humane Letters from Eastern Carolina Christian College & Seminary and she also earned a certificate in Non-Profit Management from Duke University. She is a life-long learner and continues to study for the Lord.

Dr. Brown worked in the healthcare field for over 24 years in various positions. She also worked eight years, as the Office Manager at Oak City Baptist Church, where she worships. She has held the position of faculty, Dean of Doctor of Ministry Program, Vice President of Institutional Advancement, and currently, she is the Provost at Eastern Carolina Christian College & Seminary. She is a Certified Program Planner, Certified Notary Instructor, and Certified Medical Administrative Assistant. She is employed with Durham Technical Community College as the Director of Allied Health Certification Programs and Clinical Coordinator.

Dr. Brown also completed a 400-hour Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Extended Unit Internship Chaplaincy Program at WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh.

She is a Ralph Reavis Fellow from Virginia University of Lynchburg and a two-time recipient of the Presidential Award of Eastern Carolina Christian College & Seminary. She is member of the Wake Missionary Baptist Association, Inc. and has served on the Executive Board, since 2001.

Dr. Brown preached her initial sermon on November 23, 2014, at Oak City Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. William T. Newkirk. Her sermon title was “Thank God for Another Chance…The Journey is the Reward.” She was Ordained by the Wake Missionary Baptist Association Ministerial Council on September 15, 2016. One of Rev. Brown’s favorite scripture is: Psalm 34:5 – “Keep your eyes on the Lord! You will shine like the sun.”
